May 1 - Spirit Mountain TrilliumsTrilliums carpet the forest floor of Spirit Mountain in early May.The various flowers and other plants that glorify God in their being decorate the forest floor, signaling that springtime is in full bloom.Interestingly, trillium flowers have three petals, three sepals, and three leaves, making them one of the few plants in the world with a "triple trinity" symbolism. This unique feature has made trilliums popular for gardens and floral arrangements. Trilliums are known for their medicinal properties and have been used to treat various ailments for centuries."Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these." - Luke 12:27 (ESV)Trillium blossoms last only a week or two, so look around the hillsides in early May. You may be able to observe the beauty of these amazing plants.
May 2 - Sunsets over Caribou Lake in Minnesota are a gentle reminder of the beauty in God's creation. As the sky softly shifts from day to night, one can't help but reflect on Psalm 113:3: "From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the LORD is to be praised." This peaceful transition at the end of the day serves as a moment to appreciate and praise the wonder of His works.

May 5 - Swans on the LakeshoreTrumpeter swans land for a rest as they pass through the northland on their flight north to Canada.These beautiful birds are the largest waterfowl species native to North America. They can weigh up to 30 pounds and have wingspans of up to 8 feet!"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?" - Matthew 6:26This verse encourages us to trust in God's provision for our lives. If He takes care of the birds, He will surely take care of us, who are much more valuable to Him.
May 6 - Cascading Into Spring - With Spring Runnoff in full swing, the swollen rivers along the north shore of Lake Superior are roaring with life.The Cascade River winds through the rocky canyons, and the sights, sounds, and fresh smells dance into a beautiful scene and lasting memory."Like a waterfall, refresh my spirit, O Lord. 'Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.'" Psalm 42:7This verse beautifully captures the essence of water's powerful and refreshing nature, much like the cascading rivers in your text.

May 9th - Majestic Pine - Standing high above Lake Superior, this majestic pine holds onto the cliff and salutes the first light of day. “Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?” (Exo 15:11).
May 10th - The Apostle Islands sit just off shore from the Bayfield Peninsula on Lake Superior. Erosion of the sandstone has carved out sea caves which can be visited by boat during the summer, and on skies during colder winters. The caves are one of the wonders of the region and give new meaning to "Heaven on Earth".

Their flowers are often used to treat various ailments, including skin rashes and infections, making them a valuable resource in herbal remedies. The beautiful trilliums have a unique way of reproducing. They rely on ants to disperse their seeds, which have a fleshy, nutrient-rich coating that ants find irresistible. Wildflowers bloom and disappear into the forest floor without anyone noticing. It's a shame because these incredible blooms are often overlooked and unappreciated. The Bible says in Psalm 103:15-16, "As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more." This verse reminds us of the brevity of life and the fragility of flowers, which bloom for a short time and then wither away. It encourages us to cherish the beauty of nature and our moments in life, for they are fleeting.So many beautiful things in nature go unnoticed; take a moment to appreciate life's small things.
May 22 - Grand Island East Channel Lighthouse The small wooden frame lighthouse on the southeast shore of Grand Island was constructed during the period 1869-1870 for the the purpose of guiding vessels into Munising Harbor from the east. The land was one of a number of parcels reserved in 1847 for government use.

May 30 - Crisp Point LighthouseThe Crisp Point Lighthouse has a fixed red Fourth Order lens located at a focal plane of 62 feet. The light was built in 1905.
May 31st - The Eagle Harbor Lighthouse has stood watch over Lake Superior since 1850. Located at the northern tip of Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula, Eagle Harbor Lighthouse is one of the most picturesque lights on the Lake. On this quiet May morning, the loons were playing in front of the light, while I floated in my kayak on the crystal clear waters of the mighty lake.
