On the night of November 7th 2004, a spectacular display of Northern Lights flooded the skies of Northern Minnesota with an awesome display of Gods handiwork, I was privileged to see and to share it with you.

The Northern Lights are constantly in motion because of the changing interaction between the solar wind and the earth's magnetic field. The solar wind commonly generates up to 1000,000 megawatts of electricity in an auroral display and this can cause interference with power lines, radio and television broadcasts and satellite communications. By studying the auroras, scientists can learn more about the solar wind, how it affects the earth's atmosphere and how the energy of the auroras might be exploited for useful purposes.

Auroras
Stars shine through the Northern Lights on a calm October night.
March 17 - Northern LightsLake ice melts away by mid-march, and auroras often sweep through the northern sky. While the landscapes are not yet green, the northern lights of the night skies fill in the void until May.You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; Heb 1:10On occasion, go out and look up into the night skies. There you will see the work of the hand of God.
May 8th - A passing solar storm triggered the Northern Lights into a midnight light show.
September 7 - Northern Glow - September nights bring increasing hours of darkness and a greater chance to view the Northern Lights. The auroras illuminate the night sky with vibrant green, pink, and purple hues, creating a breathtaking display that seems to dance and twirl above our heads. The colorful auroras are an incredible phenomenon created by charged particles from the sun colliding with gas molecules in Earth's atmosphere. In the Northern Half of the globe, they are known as the aurora borealis, named by the space expert Galileo Galilei. The lights dance across the night sky, capturing our attention and displaying God's Glory. If you live up north, remember to look into the skies on a clear night; you might see this beautiful interaction. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Psalm 19:1
Solar storms have kicked up some Northern Lights over the past few days.

March 4 - Spring Star TrailsStar trails are easy to photograph using a tripod and photo release cable. You set a manual exposure of 3 to 30 minutes, and you will have your star trails. In this image, I set up the camera looking north to capture the North Star (Polaris) as the stars rotate in a circle around it. It is the rotation of the earth that creates the appearance of the stars moving. The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. Psalm 19:1It is a humbling experience to view our Master Creator's Work on full display in the night skies.
Milky Way over Lake Superior
September 17 - September Skies - The Milky Way shines over the North Shore of Lake Superior with the lights of Two Harbors in the background. The Milky Way Galaxy is an incredible work of creation and is home to our earth. The galaxy is 150,000 light-years in diameter. Our Solar System resides roughly 27,000 light-years away from the Galactic Center, on the inner edge of one of the spiral-shaped concentrations of gas and dust particles called the Orion Arm.When I look up into the nighttime September skies, the work of God's creation is apparent and humbling. God's Glory: The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day, they pour forth speech; night after night, they reveal knowledge. They have no speech; they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. (Ps. 19:1-4)
